SCAR CORRECTION

Scars are caused by different types of trauma, most commonly after accidents or burns. But even after a surgical procedure, wounds sometimes do not heal optimally and conspicuous and bulging scars form in visible areas, which those affected experience as aesthetic flaws. In addition to the optical improvement, functional optimization is often the focus of the treatment, for example in the case of painful scars or hardened cords over joints or in stress areas. In rarer cases, there is also excessive scarring with a bulge-like elevation of the tissue. Those affected can be helped easily and safely with an individually tailored plastic surgical scar correction.

Procedure

In our consultation, we take our time and first examine the appropriate procedure to optimize the scar.

All follow-up examinations are included with JJPS. We'll see you the day after the operation, again about 5 days after the operation, and 14 days after the operation for stitching. We recommend arranging a check-up appointment after around six weeks and after around six months for the provisional or final check of the operation result and to coordinate further follow-up treatment.

The pain of a scar correction operation can be moderated well with normal painkillers.

Technique

Various scar correction techniques are available, starting with local injection treatment with a special preparation, direct scar excision and microsurgical re-suturing, as well as more complex local flaps or multiple, so-called serial excisions and expander implantations. Medical needling can also improve scar quality.

We will discuss the exact details and the optimal procedure for you with you in our consultation hours.

Costs & Financing

An injection treatment for scar correction starts at EUR 250,-. More complex surgical procedures start from EUR 500, - depending on the effort.

Risks

In the hands of competent specialists in plastic and aesthetic surgery with proven reconstructive experience, scar corrections are a low-risk procedure.  General risks such as infections, secondary bleeding, bruising, etc. are relatively rare and can usually be easily remedied with surgery.

Aftercare

As with all surgeries, aftercare is very important. Depending on the scar area, physical protection should be observed and a special scar massage with special care products should be carried out. We will discuss the exact protocol with you during our consultation hours.
