LABIA MINORA-
REDUCTION / CLITORAL SHEET TIGHTENING

Enlargement of the labia minora, so-called labial hypertrophy, often leads to discomfort. These can be caused by wearing tight pants, skimpy bikinis or sportswear that covers the skin and can have painful effects for those affected when cycling, riding or having sexual intercourse. This is often associated with feelings of shame and psychological stress, for example in connection with visits to the sauna or undressing in front of others.

Anatomically, a woman's labia consist of skin and underlying supporting and connective tissue. They are divided into the outer labia majora and the inner labia minora, and together they cover the vagina from the outside, protecting it from infection, dehydration and foreign bodies. Due to hormonal changes, after pregnancies or in case of heavy weight loss, the labia enlarge and/or at the same time slacken. This is often accompanied by an excess of clitoral hooding, on the side or above the clitoris, which can also cause functional discomfort due to pain during sexual intercourse. Under local anesthesia, this excess skin can be precisely removed. The clitoris itself remains intact during this procedure.

If desired, an excessively large mons pubis can also be suctioned off and the volume of fat gained can then be used to plump up the labia majora by means of autologous fat transfer.

Preparation

In an initial conversation, we will first clarify your complaints, wishes and needs in relation to this particular operation. Before a genital surgical procedure, you must not take any blood-thinning medication for at least 14 days and you should refrain from smoking.

Technique

The surgery takes place in a combination of sedation and local anesthesia and is therefore painless. The precise marking of the finding is important in order to determine the exact line for the reduction. The procedure itself takes about 45 minutes. The edges of the wound are then stitched up in a microsurgical fashion with self-dissolving sutures, which avoids painful pulling of threads. The sensation is preserved without restriction. The tissue in the genital area is very well supplied with blood, so with good care the wound heals very quickly and is completed in about two weeks.

Costs & Financing

The costs for a labia reduction vary depending on the complexity and are made up of the surgery, the material, the anesthesia and the final examinations. The cost of a labia reduction starts at around 1.800 Euros.

Risks

The procedure is now a routine operation within plastic surgery. Nevertheless, there may be risks with regard to possible secondary bleeding and wound healing disorders. We at JJPS are very familiar with intimate surgery, especially through our experience in centers for transgender surgery, so that the risk of complications is reduced to a minimum.

Aftercare

After a labia reduction, swelling and small bruises are to be expected. After about six weeks, these have usually completely subsided. In order to rule out possible wound healing disorders as far as possible, it must be ensured that no mechanical friction and stress can occur in the genital area during the first six weeks (cycling, sexual intercourse, use of tampons, horseback riding, jogging).
